RIF’s Professional Learning Communities (PLC) offer local impact through a national convening of educators and literacy advocates. RIF’s PLCs offer community-based approaches to learning, achieved through monthly meetings in which educators engage in activities to critically analyze and reflect on their practices. Facilitated by RIF’s literacy experts, our PLCs create meaningful and sustainable changes in literacy practices through ongoing, collaborative, reflective, and educator-oriented approaches.

RIF’s webinars for educators and families are one of our most popular platforms for helping connect classroom teachers, reading specialists, school librarians, families, and literacy volunteers with RIF’s content and resources. Our current series includes:

• Every Book Counts: Demonstrates how children’s literature can be used to teach lessons across a variety of disciplines ranging from Well-Being, Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) to arts integration.
• Every Educator Counts: An educator focused webinar series that offers tips and best practices to drive family engagement and enhance classroom practices, leveraging RIF resources and tools.
• Every Family Counts: Resources and tips to empower families and caregivers with everyday tools and support they can leverage to build a culture of literacy at home and support their child’s reading development.

Using an interactive platform, participants engage with RIF experts and other participants by asking and answering questions to support their development of meaningful learning opportunities for students.

RIF’s self-paced video modules model research-based best practices to use during classroom read-alouds. In 10 minutes or less, viewers can learn the ‘what,’ ‘why,’ and ‘how’ of various teaching strategies. RIF’s expert staff model the strategies using books aligned to our research-backed supplemental reading program featuring acclaimed, diverse authors and illustrators.

RIF offers half-day and full day in-person professional development (PD) for schools and districts. All of our professional development offerings are hands-on and research-based. Workshop time is included for participants to work together to begin designing an implementation strategy aligned to the learnings.
