The weatherman says, ‘snow today.’
I don’t believe him anyway.
But then I see a flake or two,
Then three, then four, then quite a few!
But will the snow stick to the ground?
Will it melt or stay around?
Is it a day for SNOW?
I press my nose up to the glass—
It’s sticking now to trees and grass!
It coats the fence, the steps, the lane,
It freezes on the weather vane.
And soon the world is soft and white,
A sparkly sugar-icing sight.
Today’s a day for SNOW!
Time to layer all my clothes,
Socks—two pairs—to warm my toes.
Next, my mittens, left then right,
Then my coat zipped warm and tight.
Next, my scarf wrapped up so snug,
Last my snow boots—tug, tug, tug!
Now it’s time for SNOW!
Swooshing, sledding down the hill—
Not too fast or you will spill!
Climb back up the other side,
Ready for another ride.
Wind is blowing on my cheeks,
Haven’t had such fun in weeks.
Oh, how I love SNOW!
Sun is setting, shadows fall.
I feel cold, and numb, and small.
My feet are wet, they squish and squash
Inside my boots they slish and slosh.
I trudge towards home with frosty toes
Icy fingers, dripping nose.
What a day of SNOW!
Waiting for a frozen me,
Bowl of soup and cup of tea,
Yummy cookies, freshly made—
Papa baked them while I played.
Mama makes a chocolate drink
With steam that turns my cheeks bright pink.
Treats to eat with SNOW!
Toasty now in my pajamas,
Sit on Papa’s lap, then Mama’s,
Watching snowflakes gently falling,
Listening to night birds calling.
Tucked up safe and sound inside,
Thinking of my sledding ride.
A lovely day of SNOW!
