A Long Way from Chicago

Set in the Depression, the book is a series of stories about the adventures Joey Dowdel and his sister Mary Alice have during nine summers with their grandmother. Despite the hard times, the children have fun, and Joey has his first ride in an airplane. Because of his passion for planes, he eventually joins the Army Air Corps.
